Another kiln loading tip for you... Sometimes I can’t fit another shelf in the kiln. I might have a few pots that are too tall and would touch the lid of the kiln. Every inch matters in a kiln, especially when you have a small one (2.5 cubic feet) like I do. There are times when I don’t have even a half inch, the thickness of my shelves, to spare. So, to save that half inch and fit more pots in, I put pots on stilts. They only take up about 1.5 square inches on the shelf, but you can fit a bigger pot in that space by using a stilt. I only do this with glazes that don’t run AT ALL to avoid glaze drips on the pots below. Plus, it looks like the pots are levitating and that’s cool. Pottery is an optimistic endeavor. Years ago, I read that being an optimist and a problem-solver go hand-in-hand. It certainly helps in this craft!
